When you’re putting together a social media post or a blog post for your business there are three things every post should have to maximize both engagement and return.
1. Attention-stopping image.
As people are scrolling through their social media feeds try to find an image that will get them to stop and read. Just like the subject line is the most important part of the email, the image is the most important part of a social media post. If you can’t get their attention with the image, a good caption is worthless. Test different images to see what works best for your audience. My recommendation for businesses is to show people. Show images of yourself, your clients, your employees.
2. A Value-added Caption
Once you’ve captured your audience’s attention with the image, now you need a good caption. Not every post has to be a blog-style post. A funny joke, a success story, tips from your expertise, or stories about your journey and yourself. Sometimes people just want to be motivated or encouraged, you can provide that also. This is social media and even as a business professional, it’s ok to be social! Bonus points for infusing your personality into your caption!
3. Call to Action
Probably the most missed thing on a social media post. Ask your audience to do something. You’ve gotten their attention, they’ve read your caption, it’s prime time to ask them to engage with you. Make it simple, fast, and easy. Some calls to action (CTA) are:
- Hit the like button
- Tag a friend
- Click the link (below or in my bio)
- Message me
- Share my post
- Comment below
